Our Church Window Restoration Experience
|
Since
1983 we have been designing, building,
installing and repairing stained glass
windows and doors. We now have many dozens of
installed
works in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas,
Florida, California, North Carolina, Belgium, Manhattan, Long Island, and
a Brooklyn train station. Each window
brings its own challenges and learning
experiences. (Far Rockaway train station in Queens soon to be
added to the list!)
Over
that period we have developed the
knowledge and skills for solving the common problems that affect
stained and beveled glass windows and
doors of all types. We have
repaired or restored dozens of windows and doors for residences.
We have investigated and learned the
additional best practices involved in
the restoration techniques for historic
windows and for the unique problems of
church windows with secondary protective
glazing.

Restored
75-year-old painted windows
First
Presbyterian Church of Alexandria, Louisiana
|
| Our
most recent restoration is shown above. 75-year-old windows with
double/triple plating and fired/cold paint were seriously damaged by moisture
and settling while in unprotected crates for 12 years. We removed the lead
oxidation, repaired or replaced the weak lead, edge-glued or replaced the broken
glass, strengthened and puttied all panels, and adjusted their size to fit the
T-bar framework in their new church setting. Six of the eight restored windows
are shown. Each window is composed of 13 panels. |

Tooley Art Glass

everyone involved understands and agrees
upon the objectives and scope on the repair or restoration
project and the costs that will result
from those boundaries. |
